Job Description

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Powerbuilder to work for our client within the Financial Services sector. This is initially a 12 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Edinburgh.


Our client is seeking a PowerBuilder Expert to support and enhance business-critical financial services client platforms. This role will focus on the development, maintenance, and optimisation of legacy PowerBuilder applications, ensuring platform stability, performance, and continuity for their clients.


Responsibilities


  • Design, develop, and maintain PowerBuilder applications, including user interfaces, business logic, and DataWindows, across client-facing financial systems.
  • Support live production environments, performing defect investigation, root-cause analysis, and resolution of complex technical issues.
  • Implement enhancements and change requests in line with client requirements, ensuring solutions are robust, well-documented, and production-ready.
  • Collaborate with broader technology and delivery teams (e.g. Java, PL/SQL, QA) to support integrations, releases, and system improvements.
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer and platform sustainability, including documentation, mentoring, and support for modernisation or transition initiatives where appropriate.

About You

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years experience as a PowerBuilder developer, with deep knowledge of PowerScript and DataWindows.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale, business-critical systems, ideally within financial services or regulated environments.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g. Oracle and/or SQL Server) and SQL-based data access within PowerBuilder applications.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in legacy platforms.
  • Experience working in structured or Agile delivery environments, with the ability to engage professionally with technical teams and client stakeholders.
