Assistant Accountant
Job Description
A very successful, well-established Mid-sized Businesses is looking to appoint an Assistant Accountant into a newly-created, broad and highly visible role within its finance function.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially aware, hands-on finance professional who enjoys variety and wants to play a key role in shaping how finance supports the wider business.
Working closely with the Head of Finance and senior finance leadership, you’ll act as a crucial link between day-to-day transactional finance and more strategic, forward-looking activity.
The Role
This is a genuinely broad position, ideal for someone who enjoys getting stuck into the detail while also contributing to the bigger picture.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Head of Finance and No.2 with day-to-day financial operations
- Acting as a bridge between transactional finance and senior leadership
- Reviewing and improving existing processes across purchase ledger, sales ledger, and cash management
- Supporting budgeting and forecasting activity
- Producing meaningful financial analysis and insight for non-finance stakeholders
- Playing a key role in developing management information
- Assisting with ad hoc projects and business improvement initiatives
About You
We’re looking for someone with strong all-round finance experience who enjoys working in a dynamic SME environment.
You might be:
- A part-qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA), or
- Qualified by experience with a solid track record in a similar role
You’ll likely have:
- A broad grounding across transactional and month-end finance
- Experience working in an SME environment (ideally £30m+ turnover)
- Strong attention to detail alongside commercial awareness
- Confidence working with stakeholders across the business
- A proactive mindset, with the ability to spot improvements and drive change
- The ambition to step into a role with real ownership and impact
